The Affordable Care Act in Florida will help Florida and other states create websites that allow consumers to shop for health insurance. These sites will help people compare all of the plans available to them and then purchase them online.
Florida has the option to create and run its own exchange. If the state chooses not to offer an exchange, a federal exchange will be made available. As of this month Florida has chosen not to offer a state exchange which means Florida citizens will rely on the federal program. Private websites can also exist alongside the government run exchanges, and they will be even more important now that Florida has declined.

Starting October 2013 small businesses and individuals will be able to shop for health insurance in states that choose to participate in the program.
